How lucky am i, been taking to Ali about getting a kit but mentioned it to a new club member who said he had bought 2 kits and changed his mind, he agreed to sell me both with a new G230rc motor as well.

I then managed to buy a crashed trex 700 with no motor for next to no money, sold the original frames to help with the costs.

Progress so far-

Kit has gone together very well with no mods needed.

Spec so far

Trex 700 with flybar
DS 610 servos
BL251 and gp750 gyro
Spectrum 851 0n throttle
CSM RL10 governor with stator gator
20t and mod 1 115main gear

F3C align 710mm blades

zimmerman exhaust
cobra distribution alloy exhaust

Only things that been tricky, lenghting the tail control rod and then using heat shrink tube to reseal.

Getting the correct movement on the throttle servo

Fuel tubing, kept it very simple, no connectors but a fuel magnet from a sthil chain saw

Had to shorten the front canopy mount on the exhaust side as it touched the exhaiust.

Not done any photos yet but will post as soon as the camera has charged.

I built my gasser some weeks ago and i want to setup the ALIGN Governor, my question is.

What is the recomended head speed for Sport and 3D? I am using a Zenoah G290-RC and a RJX gasser muffler.

Another question is, what is the working temperature for this motor?

Hi All

It's been a while since my last post - I have been too busy flying and really enjoying the heli . Given the craze for flybarless I thought I would follow and look at gaining the ~15% performance increase - insanely long flight times - hopefully >30min.

After a quick email exchange with Ali, I plumbed for the Helicommand HC-3Xtreme unit. Which I had upgraded to the latest firmware following shipment back to Germany.

I now tried installing in the helicopter and although I thought it was all ok - there seems to be a major problem - there is drift on the elevator servo. I thought this was related to gain, but even turning it down still results in some drift.

At the field this was quite noticeable as I managed only 2 minute hover before I was having to pull a lot up elevator to try to keep the heli in the same place - the heli was fighting to go forward. When I landed the swash plate was no longer level - see attached photo. I should have gone home - but tried again with different gain - but it was really bad and in setting it down before I lost complete control had a boom strike.

The diagnostics tab on the Helicommand software shows the swashplate completely level at deadstick. I have not changed this part of the mechanics since removing the flybar so I expected this. Helicommand think I must have configured it incorrectly !! - but I have followed the manual and what I can online. If anyone has installed this unit and can help me double check everything I would be very grateful. I do notice that after it has been one for a few minutes the elevator jumps if I switch between gain settings on the head gyro.

Equipment is:
- cyclic 3 x Futaba BLS351
- tail Futaba BLS251
- Receiver Spektrum AR7110 DSMX plus two satellites (all running in DSM mode)

Hi,

I just bought a Helibug Conversion with Zenoah G290-RC, i have reviewed the manual (downloaded from zenoah web page) but it doesn't say anything about the break-in procedure and fine tunning (how to setup low and high speed needle).

I am in Mexico, about 2500 metters over sea level so i think i need to move those needles.

I appreciate all your help to do the best Break-In i could so i can get the best from my engine.

Also, if you have information about how to setup correctly this mottor will be great.

Designed to use Zenoah or CY RC Series of Engines
Zenoah G230RC, G240RC, G260RC, G270RC, G290RC or CY Zenoah Clone Engines
and The Big Bore 30.5cc !

Helibug is proud to announce Thunderbird Gasser Conversion - a very long-awaited Gasser Conversion for
ThunderTiger Raptor 90.
We have received many requests for this state-of-art R/C Helicopter Gasser Conversion.
It took us a while to come up with a very unique and 'simple to convert' design.

This new conversion for the Raptor 90, is one of the most simplest conversion produced by Helibug.
Simple installation without dismantling the whole Helicopter. Only require replacing the metal stock
side frames one by one along with few steps to install the RC Engine. There are no links to replace or adjust, no relocation of any parts at all. All electronics stays at its stock location.

We have kept the total required parts count to minimum to reduce all up weight. If something is not
required, its not there.

As always, Helibug keeps it Simple

Side frame material is 0.125" thick (>3mm) G10/FR4. That's >0.5mm thicker than stock Raptor 90 Side frames.

We have also replaced the stock clutch/clutch bell/pinion. Our conversion uses Trex-700 Clutch set.
Easily available anywhere along with few upgrade clutches from third-party manufacturers.

This conversion kit is designed to use a 10oz fuel tank under the nose of Helicopter inside the Canopy. Fuel capacity is good from 10-15 minutes of flying - depending on the type of flying you do and the power of engine you select to install in your helicopter. For longer flying time, its possible to use a bigger fuel tank.

Our conversion kit supports all available main gears for Raptor 90 (from 90T to 95T). 14T pinion is
supplied with our Conversion kit. 91T stock main gear will give you 6.5 Gear Ratio.
Good for >1900 Headspeed.

To get the best out of RC Engine, we mount the engine from Top and bottom for vibration free 3D
performance. You will also need 8 pieces of Frame Mounting Blocks (HN6019) from Trex600 to complete this
conversion. 4 pieces will go on Engine mount plate and another 4 will go on the baseplate.
Please see below for complete list of included items in the kit and required parts to complete this conversion kit

Backward Engine Mounting for Better Balance and Airflow
0.125" (>3mm) Thick G10/FR4 Side Frames and Base Plates
Extremely Strong Side Frames for Excellent 3D Performance
0.250" (>6mm) Thick G10/FR4 Engine Mount Plate
No Vibrations
14T pinion for 6.5 Gear Ratio (Using Stock 91T main Gear)
Adjustable frames for other main gears for Raptor 90 (from 90T up to 95T)
Better ground clearance of Pull Start compare to Trex due to bigger skids on Stock Raptor 90
Additional Throttle Servo Location Close to Engine

this problem is addressed by Lynx and all the clutches are now recalled and replaced.

Recently, Lynx produced a new Gas Clutch.
One of our user "Azalyn" emailed us a picture of a Lynx Gas clutch with measured dimensions (Please check the attached picture).
[attachment=200]
I was too surprised to see those dimensions. there are very bad tolerances on the new clutches from lynx which can cause a lot of vibrations, crack a clutch bell and end up in a crash in a matter of minutes.

If you intent to use the new Lynx Gas clutch, please make absolutely sure that the clutch you have received is perfect and its without any dimensions errors before you install it.

Thank you again and Best Regards

Hi

Does anyone have any recommendations for some gasket between the RJX faceplate and the muffler? I have the RJX on a G270RC and was using gasket paper (which was supposedly suitable) but this just burns out the way.

Any help / advice greatly appreciated - just want to stop exhaust oil from being deflected onto the frame and outside of the muffler.

Many thanks

I'm planning my gasser conversion but I have some concerns and questions. Firstly regarding vibration. On other forums, including a discussion on - http://rc.runryder.com/helicopter/t484595p1/- there was a suggestion that the 26cc Zenoah had considerably more vibration than the 23cc. Can somebody with experience in this please comment. Secondly - weight. I see that the Zenoahs weigh 1.8kg whereas RC Gas engines up to 30cc used in fixed wing aircraft weigh only about 1kg including CDI (maybe without the battery). Isn't this a massive weight penalty to pay to be running a Zenoah ? Why not run a cheap 26cc gasser engine as used in fixed wing a/c. Surely there are reliable running ones. Anybody got experience with one please ? Then there's the high revving gas engines of this size with impressive HP that are tuned for boats & aren't all that expensive. Why not shrink on a custom machined cooling fin sleeve head & take advantage of this RPM/Power combination ? In 3D I'm not expecting to be lugging below at least 1/3 or 1/2 throttle anyhow. Any first hand experience here please.
Please be patient with me. These are genuine questions.
